Welcome to my website

I'm Andrew Bingham and I'm delighted to represent the High Peak in Parliament.  I was born in Buxton, and having lived in the High Peak all my life it means a great deal to me to be able to stand up for our area in Parliament and make sure that local people have a strong voice in Westminster.

On this website you will find how to contact me as well as examples of some issues and campaigns I've been involved with.  There are also links to local organisations and other local information which should be of use to you if you live in the constituency.  If you are a constituent and would like to get in touch, I would be very happy to hear from you.  I hold regular surgeries all around the constituency but if you are an organiser of a local group, a teacher at a local school, or involved in a local business which you feel would benefit from a visit please let me know.

On Sunday 2 June I am organising a Celebrity Cricket Match in aid of The Air Ambulance. The match will be held on the anniversary of the only professional Cricket match to have ever been snowed off - on 2 June 1975 at Buxton Cricket Club - and will be held at the same ground as the game which was snowed off. I hope that the Celebrity Cricket Match Sponsored by Buxton Natural Mineral Water will be a fantastic fun day out for all the family, and that it will also raise lots of money for The Air Ambulance, who provide such a vital service in the High Peak. So please come along on the day, bring your chairs and a picnic, have fun, and help save lives!

Andrew pays tribute to Baroness Thatcher

High Peak MP Andrew Bingham has added his voice to those paying tribute to Baroness Thatcher following her death on Monday. Andrew said:

"Mrs. Thatcher was a giant of the political landscape. She divided opinion and many took issue with her policies, but she inherited a country in 1979 which was dubbed the sick man of Europe and left it as one of the main economic power centres of the continent.

"I was privileged to meet her on more than one occasion and the first time I saw her - in the early 90's, before I was involved in politics - she spoke of the need for people who have worked outside politics to enter politics in later life to bring their knowledge and experience to government of all levels. It was this speech that made me look to get involved in politics."

Andrew added:

"She was Britain's first - and so far only - female Prime Minister, which in itself was a great achievement and it is widely acknowledged that she, along with Clement Atlee, was a Prime Minister who really changed the country. She will be sadly missed and I hope that everyone, even those who opposed her policies, will lament the loss of the person as well as probably Britain's greatest peacetime Prime Minister."

Buxton Natural Mineral Water is a sponsor of the England Cricket Team, and as well as being main sponsor for the Celebrity Cricket Match, will also be sponsoring the player shirts.

Andrew said:

“I’m absolutely thrilled that Buxton Natural Mineral Water is sponsoring the Celebrity Cricket Match that I’m organising. They have been incredibly generous in supporting the match and the Air Ambulance; and as they are very involved in the game at a national level, sponsoring this match for such a good charity is a great fit.”

The Celebrity Cricket Match sponsored by Buxton Natural Mineral Water will be held at Buxton Cricket Club on Sunday 2nd June, on the anniversary of the date in 1975 when Buxton Cricket Club hosted the only professional cricket match to have ever been called off due to snow.

Tickets will be £5 per person (under-16s free), with all proceeds going to the Air Ambulance. Gates will open at 12noon, with the first ball bowled at 2pm.

Andrea Cahill, Buxton Natural Mineral Water Brand Manager, said:

“It's fantastic to see Buxton Natural Mineral Water getting involved and helping The Air Ambulance Service to keep flying and saving lives. High Peak MP Andrew Bingham is teaming up with the Air Ambulance this summer to host a Celebrity Cricket Match in Buxton.

Andrew is assembling two teams, one a team of well-known soap stars, and the other a team of other celebrities and MPs, including Andrew, himself a big cricket fan.

The match will be held at Buxton Cricket Club on Sunday 2nd June, on the anniversary of the date in 1975 when Buxton Cricket Club hosted the only professional cricket match to have ever been called off due to snow.

Tickets will be £5 per person (under-16s free), with all proceeds going to the Air Ambulance.

Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland Air Ambulance (DLRAA) serves the counties of Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland. They are funded entirely by voluntary donations and attend, on average, four missions every single day, from road traffic collisions to house fires; fallen horse riders to industrial accidents. DLRAA regularly attends any incident that is life-threatening, where access by land is limited, or where the patient's quality of life would be affected by undue delay.

Andrew said:

“I’m really pleased to be announcing this Celebrity Cricket Match in aid of the Air Ambulance. We already have some fantastic celebrities lined up – real household names who most people will know – and will be getting more in the coming weeks and months.

“I remember the 2nd June 1975 well, with Buxton Cricket Ground covered in snow, and as the anniversary this year falls on a Sunday I thought it was the ideal opportunity to commemorate the event on the original ground.

“I’m working closely with the Air Ambulance on organising the match, and we’re working hard to ensure that it’ll be a fantastic family day out, so put the date in your diaries today! We’re still working on the exact line-up, and further details will be announced in due course.”

Tracy Grunwell, Head of Fundraising for the Air Ambulance, said:

"It's fantastic to see Andrew and the Celebrities getting involved and helping to raise donations for this incredibly worthy cause. The Air Ambulance is a vital service in this area and Buxton and the High Peak are doing a fantastic job to help us keep the Air Ambulance flying. The support that we receive makes a huge difference, not just to us but to the lives of the people we save. I urge everyone to bring a blanket and come and have some fun.”

Tim Budd, Chairman of Buxton Cricket Club, said:

"Buxton Cricket Club is delighted to be hosting this event. We want to do everything we can to help Derbyshire Air Ambulance who were fantastic when they came to tend to an injured player in our game against Buxworth last season.

"We are a community club, with a thriving juniors section and exciting plans for expansion, but it is only with the support of local people that we can continue to exist. So I hope that as many local people come along to show their support for the Air Ambulance, to enjoy a game of cricket at one of the most beautiful cricket grounds in the country, and also find out how their support can ensure a thriving future for Buxton Cricket Club."
